The Hinson Girls
Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel

About Us

The Hinson Girls are four sisters from Lancaster, SC who have been performing bluegrass gospel music since December 2009. Their love for music has brought them closer together, and opened many opportunities to share their talents. In March 2012, they won 1st place at the SC Bluegrass Band Championship held at the Renofest Bluegrass Festival in Hartsville, SC. In July 2012, they were featured on WBTV Charlotte, NC’s “Carolina Camera”. The girls were also part of the morning newscast on News Channel 36 with Larry Sprinkle in September 2012; and have had several radio interviews including one with Keith Larson on Charlotte News Talk 1110AM WBT Radio in November 2011. They hope to perform bluegrass music for many years to come and encourage other young fans to enjoy and participate in this wonderful genre of music.

Meet the Band Members -

Katelyn is the lead singer and also plays the mandolin.  She is 14 years old, loves bluegrass music and jamming with her sisters and friends.  Her favorite bands are A Deeper Shade of Blue, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, and Allison Krauss.  On stage, her enthusiasm and energy clearly demonstrate her love of performing and one day she dreams of being a famous singer and mandolin player.

Melissa
, the bass player, is 16 years old and Allison's twin. Her favorite pastimes are riding horses and spending time with family and friends. Also, she enjoys performing with the band and visiting new places. Some of her favorite bluegrass groups include The Boxcars and Dailey & Vincent.  Her natural talent and ear for music are easily seen while playing the upright bass, singing harmony and some lead vocals.  Melissa dreams of one day being an attorney while continuing to perform with her sisters.

Kristin
at age 19, is a sophomore at Winthrop University and began playing the guitar in 2008; she sings harmony, as well as some lead vocals. Her personality and dedication to music have enabled her to take a leadership role in the band.  Her favorite musical groups include A Deeper Shade of Blue, The Hatley Family Band, and the Lonesome River Band. Her goal is to earn a degree in Mathematics while continuing to perform with her sisters.

Allison
also 16, is Melissa's twin. She plays the banjo, sings harmony and an occasional lead vocal.  Her sense of humor and strong banjo skills made her an essential part of the band's success. The love she has for bluegrass music is inspired by A Deeper Shade of Blue, The Boxcars, Rhonda Vincent, and The Grascals. In addition to the banjo, she enjoys riding horses, and one day plans to become an equine vet and horse trainer.
